Retired Deputy Fire Marshal to Lead Project Development at Urban Story Ventures
Michael Wright Joins Jimmy White in Effort to Expedite
Commercial Real Estate Development in the Scenic City
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Dec. 18, 2025) – After nearly three decades of service to the City of Chattanooga, Deputy Fire Marshal Michael Wright has started his new chapter with commercial real estate developer Urban Story Ventures. Wright served as the City Deputy Fire Marshal for 12 years, where he had firsthand involvement in inspecting and supporting some of Chattanooga’s largest real estate developments. Working alongside developers like Urban Story Ventures’ President and Managing Partner Jimmy White, Wright played a vital role in finding solutions for complex projects, many of which involved public-private partnerships.
“In the decade we’ve worked together, I’ve seen how similar we are in visualizing a project’s end result and understanding the urgency in finding solutions as challenges arise,” said White. “The timing of this couldn’t be more perfect. With a record number of projects happening at one time, Michael will play an integral role in keeping us on track with his expertise and day-to-day support.”
Wright brings both public and private sector experience, giving Urban Story Ventures the benefit of a unique perspective and a wealth of insight when it comes to drafting, design, City code, inspections, and approvals. Early on, Wright started his career in drafting and design for a steel company. He later became a firefighter for the City and worked his way up to Captain and later Deputy Fire Marshal. Wright also spent time in fire prevention on the private side, designing sprinkler system plans for AEED.
“I’m very thankful for my time with the City and look forward to using my experience to continue supporting Chattanooga’s growth and economic development,” shared Wright.
As director of project development, Wright will work on a wide range of projects, from overseeing commercial buildouts to collaborating with White on underwriting deals and negotiating vendor contracts. He’ll be reviewing designs with architects and engineers and ensuring contractors are staying on budget while meeting schedules and project deadlines.
“Over the years, Urban Story Ventures has built a great working relationship with Michael, and we’re excited to work together in this new capacity,” said White. “Having his experience will be invaluable and will help us expand our capabilities. We are looking forward to many more projects and a bright future ahead.”
